WELCOME ABOARD
What an 'Indian summer' we have experienced this autumn! We hope you took time to experience the beauty of the changing seasons in our Garden City. Now that winter is here, don't forget the spectacular views at the Christchurch Gondola. Wrap up warm and head up to see the mountains receive their annual dusting of snow, taking in the vista with a coffee or hot chocolate from the Summit Cafe - the perfect remedy to the crisp winter air! Our "Superstar" this month is Andy Rowe, our talented Maintenance Engineer, who divides his time between the Tram Shed and the Tram Tracks! he is one of our most jovial staff at Tramway and our 'Go to Guy' with a boundless passion for anything that runs on rails. Andy joined Welcome Aboard 12 months ago and his ingenuity has proved invaluable. Last winter he was seen grinding joints on the tram track using equipment he fabricated himself. A keen model engineer, he has a home workshop full of vehicles designed for small scale tracks. Andy's skills and resourcefulness have given a worthy kick-start to the Birney tramcar restoration project; see below for more details on this. |

JULY SCHOOL HOLIDAYS
Take advantage of your Annual Pass these school holidays! Regardless of weather, the Tram & Gondola provide delights for children and parents alike. At the Gondola take on Speedy's Gondola Quiz and become Top of the Class. Throughout winter we are offering a special rate of $3 per Speedy Quiz Pack for Annual Pass holders only (normal retail $5). These can be purchased from the Gondola Shop at the Top and every pack includes; quiz, pencil/pen, Speedy cut-out and a small gift. Great value and great school holiday fun! During the winter months both attractions are open 7 days, Gondola from 10am - 6pm and Tramway 9am - 6pm.
MID-WINTER FUNCTIONS
With this year ticking by faster than the last, we are at the mid-way point and what better way to celebrate than with Christchurch Tramway and Gondola. Whether a work event or a family celebration, we cater for all and offer distinctive venues which will make your function stand out from the rest... charter a tram and entertain your guests with canapés and bubbles, or mingle before one of the greatest views in the world up at the Gondola. COMPANY UPDATE
TRAM EXTENSION
The restoration of forgotten tramcars is a major component of the current Tramway Extension project and one of these trams is the Invercargill Birney No. 15. The tram is starting to take shape with the side framing and chassis transported from Andy's workshop to the tram barn at Ferrymead Heritage Park. The Birney will be one of two additional trams required to service the track extension, due for completion in time for the Rugby World Cup in 2011. Tramway Restaurant New Winter Menu
Thursday 10 June marks the introduction of the Christchurch Tramway Restaurant's new Winter Menu! Looking for a venue for a special occasion? Why not take advantage of this season's excellent Monthly Reward and be one of the first to sample our delicious winter fare! Seafood Chowder, Aoraki Salmon and Canterbury Lamb Rack are some of the exciting new dishes featuring during these colder months. Mountain Bike Experience
We are pleased to report that the Gondola Mountain Bike Experience has been well received with many local and international visitors enjoying this new outdoor pursuit over the past six months. As a special offer to our Annual Pass members we invite you to bring your own bike and enjoy a 50% discount off Single and Multi Pass Ride tickets during the month of June! Simply present your Annual Pass on arrival at the Base Station to take advantage of this offer and staff will present you with a trail map before you set off. From 1st June, we warmly welcome our new "Gold" Annual Pass members and thank you all for your outstanding support of our Attractions. In June 2008 we introduced the Renewal Reward Programme, designed to allow long-serving members to renew at discounted rates.
